Marine collagen for skin and hair

Fish collagen, also known as marine collagen, is most commonly extracted from the skin and scales of fish, and possibly also from shellfish. It is a hydrolysed collagen in the form of collagen peptides, which is characterised by its low molecular weight, making it easily and quickly absorbed. The main component is type I collagen, which is responsible for the strength and elasticity of skin, hair, nails, but also joints and tendons.

Effects of fish collagen

Due to its properties, marine collagen is considered an essential beauty dietary supplement, which is recommended to be taken especially when the desire for:

  • firm and supple skin,
  • reduced wrinkles and better hydrated skin,
  • strong and healthy hair,
  • strong nails.

Taking fish collagen can also support joint health, but it is considered a better joint supplement beef collagen which contains the amino acid proline, which ensures the strength of collagen.

Use of marine collagen

Fish collagen is recommended for long‑term use in daily doses of at least 2500 mg. Some fish collagens are labelled 'bioactive'. However, due to their effects, all hydrolysed marine collagens fall into this category. A guaranteed quality is represented by the certified marine collagen Naticol®, which prides itself on its sustainability and on studies confirming its effects. This is what you will find in our Vilgain Collagen Complex.

An alternative to supplementing with marine collagen is regular consumption of fish broth.
