Why take drinks for athletes?

Sports drinks are a useful supplement for both performance and recreational athletes. In addition to supporting adherence to a proper drinking regime, they provide the human body with other substances that are essential for the functioning and performance of the body.

Types of sports drinks

Ionic drinks provide the body with essential minerals that are lost with water during physical activity, some may also contain an easily digestible source of energy in the form of carbohydrates (maltodextrin, sucrose, glucose, fructose) or some amino acids. Depending on the concentration of active substances, they are further divided into hypotonic, isotonic and hypertonic. Ionic drinks (especially hypotonic and isotonic) should be drunk during and after physical activity.

Energy drinks are responsible for energising the human body to perform. In addition to significant amounts of sugar and sweeteners, the drinks also contain stimulants and other excipients such as caffeine, taurine and guarana. The use of energy drinks should not be overdone, after the positive effects have worn off, the body goes into a slump. Moreover, energy drinks are not suitable for everyone.

Protein drinks provide the human body with proteins that facilitate muscle recovery or growth after physical activity. The liquid form of proteins will ensure that the protein is quickly available in the muscles and will not burden the digestive tract as much. Protein drinks are also suitable for weight reduction and weight loss, or to simply replenish protein.

BCAA drinks allow immediate intake of branched chain amino acids BCAA, which protect muscle tissue from degradation, can promote recovery and muscle growth. BCAA drinks should be drunk before and after physical activity.
