Turmeric Extract Supplements
Curcumin is an turmeric extract root (Curcuma longa) and is renowned for its antioxidant and anti‑inflammatory properties. The active compounds in turmeric are known as curcuminoids. Since curcumin is poorly absorbed by the human body and is rapidly metabolized, it is often recommended to take it alongside black pepper extract, known as piperine, to enhance absorption.
Benefits of Curcumin
Curcumin acts as an antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals, which helps slow down aging and prevent inflammatory processes. In addition, curcumin:
- Supports joint and musculoskeletal health;
- Promotes normal liver and heart function;
- Improves skin health;
- Lowers blood sugar levels;
- Supports normal immune system function.
Side effects such as stomach discomfort or diarrhoea can occur in sensitive individuals or with high doses of curcumin.
How to Take Curcumin
There is no established standard dose for curcumin, but it is commonly taken in amounts of 250‑400 mg per day. Opinions on long‑term use vary. Curcumin is not suitable for people taking blood thinners or cholesterol‑lowering medications.
