Vilgain Pu‑erh - secondary fermented dark tea with an earthy taste

Vilgain Pu‑erh is a traditional Chinese dark tea made from the large‑leaved variety of the Camellia sinensis var. assamica tea plant from the southwestern province of Yunnan. It is characterised by its bright red colour, delicate earthy flavour and distinctive aroma characteristic of the higher grades of Yunnan teas.

Modern accelerated fermentation method

Our Pu‑erh is produced by the modern shou (ripe) production method, which uses rapid controlled microbial fermentation, called wet‑piling (wu‑doi). This speeds up the entire production process, which traditionally took several decades (sheng method). The tea leaves are then dried, pressed and left to mature.

Unlike commercially available Pu‑erh teas, VIlgain Pu‑erh is made from tiny, golden tips (young shoots) and young, tender leaves, making it a higher class of tea.

The flavour profile is full of earthy depth

Pu‑erh is also known as red tea, due to the colour of the infusion, which boasts a mahogany to ruby hue. In China, it is classified as a dark tea - post‑fermented. In our country, it is simply a black tea. It has a delicately earthy flavour profile with light notes of nuts or wood.

Pu‑erh is considered a great digestive aid. It is traditionally recommended to drink after heavier meals, but is also suitable for all‑day sipping.

Pu‑erh as a fat burner?

Due to its unique production method, pu‑erh is rich in substances such as theabrownin, polysaccharides, statins or gallic acids and is thus traditionally used as a weight loss aid. These effects have been the subject of numerous studies [1,2,3].
