Organic Psyllium – soluble fibre for normal digestive and intestinal function
Vilgain Psyllium BIO – soluble fibre from Indian plantain
Psyllium is a soluble fibre obtained by cleaning and subsequently grinding the husks of Indian plantain seeds. Vilgain Psyllium has 98% purity, comes from India, and is also of organic quality.
How does psyllium work inside our body?
Psyllium is known for its ability to bind water and form a gel-like structure. Studies [1, 2] describe its mechanism as follows: it swells in liquid and forms a soft gel that absorbs fluids. Psyllium binds water and creates a "gel-like structure" that subsequently has a large volume and contributes to easier passage of food through the digestive tract. Thanks to this, it may help with bowel movements.
Who is psyllium suitable for and who should avoid it?
Fibre is usually lacking in Western diets, so supplementing with psyllium can be a suitable choice. It is especially appreciated by those who want to support the normal function of the digestive tract and intestines. On the other hand, it is definitely not suitable for small children under 3 years old, as they have completely different recommended fibre intakes. Although it is a completely natural product, pregnant women should consult a doctor regarding the use and dosage of psyllium.
Proper hydration is essential when using psyllium
For psyllium to function properly, it is important to maintain adequate hydration. Sufficient fluid intake ensures that psyllium will swell and form a gel in the body, which allows it to perform its beneficial functions.
