Organic Kukicha – traditional Japanese green tea with a mild sweet taste, low caffeine content
Vilgain Kukicha BIO - fine Japanese green tea with low caffeine content
Vilgain Kukicha is a traditional Japanese green tea made from the fine twigs, stems and stalks of the Camellia sinensis tea plant that are left over after processing premium teas such as Sencha or Gyokuro. Due to its low caffeine content, it has a mild, sweet to nutty flavour with a pleasant umami note that sets it apart from other green teas, making it ideal for evening sipping or for more sensitive people.
Traditional 'mottainai' tea - don't waste, use it all
In Japan, Kukicha used to be known as the tea of peasants and tea masters. They sold the leaves while keeping the twigs and stems for their own use. This drink thus symbolizes the mottainai philosophy of appreciating the whole gift of nature and not wasting what the tea plant has to offer.
Processing in accordance with tradition
Making Kukicha is a time and labour intensive process. The tender stems and stalks are steamed, dried and lightly roasted after separation from the leaves to develop their characteristic flavour. By carefully controlling the temperature at each step, the tea retains not only its aroma and flavour, but also its nutritional value.
A rich source of minerals and antioxidants
Although it contains less caffeine, Kukicha is full of valuable substances. The stems and twigs contain amino acids, minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium, as well as trace elements. In addition, the leaf stalks give the tea a slightly sweet taste thanks to lignins and polysaccharides. Catechins and flavonoids in traditional culture support the body's natural defences.
