Traditional cultivation in the ancient cradle of cocoa beans

Cocoa beans are harvested on plantations in the Ticul region of Mexico. This region has a rich history of cocoa cultivation - dating back to the Mayan civilisation. It is grown traditionally, gently, without the use of pesticides or other chemical products. It is usually supplied by smaller local farmers and its cultivation supports biodiversity, thus contributing to the sustainability of agriculture in the area.

The rarest Criollo variety

Vilgain Chocolate Chunks contain Criollo cocoa, the most prized variety. It accounts for less than 5% of world production. It is extremely difficult to grow, but the quality of the beans is incomparable to the classic varieties. They draw you in with their rich, creamy flavour without bitterness, with a wide range of fruity, nutty and spicy flavour notes.

Supporting the proper function of the digestive system

Chocolate as a great source of fibre? Ours is, and it's the prebiotic one - inulin. It is not absorbed in the small intestine but travels up to the large intestine where it serves as a prebiotic - food for beneficial bacteria. A healthy digestive tract is associated with a host of other health benefits as well as optimal absorption of nutrients from food.

Cocoa solids minimum 33 %.
